In 2005 CPT entered into an exclusive license agreement with Oregon State University (OSU)
to jointly develop a direct-drive wave energy conversion device. OSU has a unique combination of facilities
with which to conduct ocean wave energy research and is located
within a short distance of the Oregon coast. The Electrical Power
Research Institute has identified Oregon as the best location in the
country for ocean wave energy harvesting:
-
Wallace Energy Systems and Renewables Facility (WESRF) has the nation’s highest power rating in a university-lab setting, including the new
advanced linear test bed for rapid prototype evaluation. The
LTB can integrate captured wave profiles from ocean monitoring
buoys, in order to closely approximate the motion and power of ocean waves
found on the Oregon coast.
- O.H. Hinsdale wave research lab has the longest wave flume (342 ft.) in North America.
- Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC) has a 40 year history of marine research, education and outreach. The 49 acre site on Yaquina Bay in Newport, OR, a short drive from the main campus, has a fleet of
vessels necessary for ocean deployments.
